The Artist/Craftsman, and owner of Duck Creek Forge, has spent his life as an avid outdoorsman. He is a Native Texan, who from an early age grew up fishing with his father and then later hunting with a BB gun and eventually an old shotgun and then a rifle. His very first rifle was a Winchester 1894 that his father gave him. As a young teen buying ammo was expensive, so he made his first black powder rifle, a .45 caliber Hawkin’s muzzleloader. David started tanning his own deer hides in his teens and made his first knives using stock removal with old file blades. He eventually started forging blades in a coal forge that he made himself. The first knife he sold, was for $40 dollars, so he could buy a coonhound pup. His passion has been everything outdoors, survival and self-sufficiency. He learned to make things himself because he found that he preferred what he made to what he could buy.
To this day, he makes his own buckskin clothes and forges his own knives. Each knife he makes is for himself. If it isn’t something he would carry himself, he won’t sell it. His attitude is if it doesn’t sell, then he gets to keep it. Unfortunately for him (but fortunately for his patrons) , his knives are snatched up fast, so he still uses the first two knives he made in the early 90’s, a small skinning knife for field dressing and butchering, and a large Bowie style for breaking bones.
The most important things in life to David are his faith in Jesus Christ, and his family. “Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the creator of all things, born of a virgin, sent to pay the penalty for the sins of all. He was put to death on the cross as a sinless sacrifice, rose from the dead three days later, ascended to the right hand of God, and will return to claim the thrown of David. He is my Savior, Creator and friend. He is my strength and my shield, my God, in whom I will trust.”
